2007 – 2018 EDITIONS

The Lucca Junior Contest started in 2007 under the name of “Lucca Junior Contest for illustrators and cartoonists”, the first contest dedicated to children’s illustration held at the Lucca Comics & Games Festival. Until the 2018 edition, the contest selected every year a different theme to let the participants draw inspiration in the making of their artworks. This aimed to set up a themed exhibition to be showcased at the Lucca Comics & Games Festival, to gain visibility to the “illustration for children” niche and to its professionals.

THE NEW FORMULA – INSTITUTION OF EDITORIAL ILLUSTRATION AWARD

In 2019, following the sudden passing of prof. Livio Sossi – historic president of the contest jury and among the main experts in illustration and literature for children – the organization chose to name the award after him, and decided to revise the contest formula, with the goal of following the path he traced in talent promoting and partnering with industry publishers for publication. The Lucca Junior Contest has therefore been transformed into the “Livio Sossi” editorial illustration award. The new formula requires the submission of a complete project for a picture book – based on an unpublished story proposed by the organization – which will get published by the publisher partner.
